This exhibition focused on the climate crisis as part of the Chelmsford Green City event. I chose to depict three endangered species, each rendered realistically before being distorted or destroyed in a different way: a tiger glitched to the edge of recognisability, a sea turtle entwined in a corporate logo, and a polar bear obscured beneath thick black paint representing oil. I filmed the painting and destruction of each work, presenting them alongside QR codes linking to the respective videos, so that the installation took on an element of performance.
I also developed the exhibition’s title and logo, inspired by a quote from environmentalist George Monbiot. While “tipping points” are often associated with catastrophic environmental change, the idea here was that the opposite can also occur - that collective action can trigger a positive tipping point. This became the underlying aim of the exhibition. I designed and produced a small accompanying booklet for the show, which was very well received.
