Portraiture formed the foundation of my Fine Art practice, a focus that developed during my degree and shaped the direction of much of my early work. I have long been drawn to the idea that “a good portrait is a portrait of the artist, not the sitter”, and this belief underpins the selected works shown here.
Over the course of several years, I completed dozens of commissioned portraits, refining both my technical skill and observational discipline. Although my practice has since expanded into more conceptual and abstract territories, the influence of portraiture continues to surface. Elements of this training - particularly composition, layering and emotional intensity - still re-emerge within my later work.
