Since 2020 I have worked closely with MS-RT – Ford’s motorsport-inspired commercial vehicle division – developing graphic kits for the Transit Custom and Ranger lines. MS-RT vehicles take Ford’s proven commercial platforms and give them a distinctive sporting edge, using bold design cues influenced by the visual language of racing.
My role focuses on creating vinyl graphics that enhance the vehicles’ already dynamic forms, using race-inspired lines and carefully balanced compositions to emphasise movement, energy, and visual impact.
Each project begins with a wide range of exploratory concepts before gradually narrowing towards a final design through a series of collaborative refinements. Working alongside the head of MS-RT and the team at Joyce Design, the process balances aesthetic impact, brand identity, and practical production requirements.
The work demands an unusually high level of precision. Designs are developed over several months and engineered to tolerances of around 0.5mm, ensuring the graphics integrate seamlessly with the vehicle’s bodywork while remaining efficient to manufacture. Even marginal adjustments can have a meaningful impact at scale, where saving just a few millimetres of printed material can translate into significant reductions across long production runs.
Once finalised, the graphics are produced as precision-cut vinyl kits, supplied to dealers with detailed fitting instructions and fitted on-site by specially trained installation teams. The finished result reinforces the MS-RT identity, combining everyday practicality with the exciting flair of modern motorsport.
